Full-Size Medal: US Air Force
AIR FORCE CROSS: The second highest military decoration that can be granted to a member of the U.S. Air Force. The AFC is given to personnel for extraordinary heroism not justifying the award of the Medal of Honor.
AIR FORCE ACHIEVEMENT: Instituted - 1980 for Criteria: Outstanding achievement or meritorious service not warranting award of the Air Force Commendation.
AIR FORCE AERIAL ACHIEVEMENT: Instituted in 1988 and is awarded for sustained meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.
AIR FORCE COMMENDATION: Instituted in1958 for outstanding achievement or meritorious service rendered on behalf of the US Air Force. Between 1947 and 1958, the US Air Force used the Army Commendation Medal until it developed its own award.
AIR FORCE GOOD CONDUCT: Instituted in 1963 for exemplary conduct, efficiency, and fidelity during 3 years of active enlisted service with the US Air Force. The Air Force Good Conduct Medal was discontinued on Feb. 6, 2006 per the 97 Uniform Board by the chief of staff of the Air Force. Individuals will continue to wear those previously earned and as a matter of record. The medal was awarded only to enlisted personnel for exemplary conduct (exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity) while on active military service of the United States from June 1, 1963 - Feb. 28, 2006. Reinstated on 11 Feb 2009.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE: Instituted in 1960 for exceptionally meritorious service to the United States Government in a duty of great responsibility. This medal requires official authorization prior to wear. Customer needs to contact a military awards specialist to purchase this award.
