Rare Napoleon I Emperor campaign 1792-1815 Medal

This medal was instituted on August 12, 1857 by Emperor Napoleon III to ‘honour with a special distinction the soldiers who fought under the flag of France in the great wars of 1792 to 1815’ and awarded to survivors of the wars of Revolution and Empire. It was designed by Désiré-Albert Barre and produced at the Imperial Mint. The medal was nicknamed "the chocolate medal" because of its color. Great addition to any anybody's collection.
Features of the Medal:
- Condition: Very Good (missing the original ribbon) - Has a fare amount of Patina (especially on the back)
- Medal Measures approx. 2.5” x 1” and the box it is displayed in is 4.5" x 2.5" x 1" (top of box not included)
- Front of the medal: Integral imperial crown suspension with a circular central medallion bearing the laurel-crowned head of Napoleon I facing right and circumscribed ‘NAPOLEON I EMPEREUR’ within a circular raised laurel wreath
- Back of the medal: a circular central medallion inscribed ‘A SES COMPAGNONS DE GLOIRE SA DERNIÈRE PENSÉE, SAINTE-HÉLÈNE 5 MAI 1821’ (to his glorious companions his last thought, Saint Helena, 5 May 1821) and circumscribed ‘CAMPAGNES DE 1792 A 1815’ (Campaigns of 1792 to 1815); within a circular raised laurel wreath
