What a wonderful gift – keepsake. 1987-Mint Prestige Proof Set commemorated the bicentennial of the Constitution of the United States. This set features all the circulating coins from its year of mintage, plus that year's commemorative silver dollar coin, all in stunning proof condition. This set comes in its original packaging from the U.S. Mint.
Prestige sets were only issued from 1983-1997 (excluding 1985). They are some of the rarest and most highly sought-after proof sets ever issued by the United States government. They have a beautiful mirror-like finish on each of the coins which results in 2 or more stampings on special polished blanks during the minting process. Therefore, only a limited number of proof copies are produced each year.
This proof set has been in a safe since it was given to my parents as a gift in 1987. The two-piece box measures 5 1/4 inches by 7 3/8 inches by 1 5/8 inches when closed.
