This Model 1858 Army Dress "Hardee" Hat, adorned with cavalry insignia, is a fine specimen on the collector's market. With a 1" brass numeral "7" and company letter "C" flanking an original crossed saber badge, it is a excellent representation of a member of Company C, 7th Regiment of cavalry. The 3" wide brim features the familiar stamped brass "eagle" device, while the opposite side boasts a 5-Point Star "Corps 11" insignia. Original worsted gold and black hat cords are also present and the black felt body is in exceptional condition. The interior, unlined with a leather sweatband, reveals manufacturer information from Horstmann Bros & Co. 5th & Cherry Sts. Philadelphia 3 Military Furnishers 7. It also has the feathers in tack and beautiful. I know nothing more regarding this hat or the date of manufacture - see pictures.
