The M5 Bayonet was developed in 1953 as a replacement for M1 Garand rifle bayonets. Unlike its predecessors, the M5 does not require a muzzle band to be attached to the rifle barrel. Instead, it uses a stud that fits the gas cylinder lock screw under the M1 barrel. In response to complaints about the difficulty of removing the M1 bayonet while wearing heavy winter gloves, the M5 includes a lug release button that can be pressed to easily remove the bayonet, even when wearing gloves.

This military bayonet, the US M5 A1, scabbard was produced during the years of 1965 to 1969 and often supplied to South Korea and South Vietnam as part of military aid. The scabbards were identified with the markings "PWH" or "TWB", but were later repainted black instead of the previously parkerized hangers. Additionally, the large metal protector attached to the tip by Victory Plastics was replaced with a black grommet. Originally known as Pennsylvania Working Home (for the Blind), the organization was later renamed "The Working Blind in Philadelphia, Pa."

  • Condition: Excellent - Military Surplus M5 Bayonets are genuine U. S. Government issued. Bayonets will be clean and show little signs of use. Small amounts of oil and light blemishes may be present.
