As an expert in presidential history, I am pleased to introduce the 2010-D & P President 1857-1861 James Buchanan $1 Coin (7918). James Buchanan Jr. was the 15th president of the United States, serving from 1857 to 1861. He also held the position of secretary of state from 1845 to 1849 and represented Pennsylvania in both houses of the U.S. Congress. His beliefs in states' rights, including those surrounding slavery, were paramount, and he believed in limiting the powers of the federal government before the onset of the Civil War.
