This California Bicentennial medal actually contains copper left by an early Spanish Expedition, found on the old mission grounds in Santa Clara. The obverse portrays a scene of the Portola Expedition and the reverse displays a map of California depicting San Jose as the first State Capital. These medals are dated 1769-1969.

This coin originally belonged to a coin collector who stored it in our safe for years. Eventually we acquired his collection in the condition he left it and other than sealing it in plastic it is sold as he left it.
